GEOS Achieves ISCC EU Certification: International Recognition for Sustainable Energy Supply Chains
30 January 2026New National Sustainability Certification System: GEOS Certified in Accordance with the Ministerial Decree of 7 August 2024
GEOS Environment S.r.l. has successfully completed the certification process under the National Sustainability Certification System introduced by the Ministerial Decree of 7 August 2024, which regulates the sustainability criteria applicable to biofuels, biomethane and other renewable fuels.
The Decree extends the certification requirement to the entire supply chain involved in the production, collection and recovery of materials destined for energy pathways subject to sustainability criteria. In particular, the system applies to waste and agro-food by-products used in anaerobic digestion plants and biofuel production, involving not only the final facilities but also upstream producers and operators.
In light of the most recent regulatory interpretations, it is now well established that the sustainability certification obligation already applies, and that for biomethane and biofuel supply chains full compliance must be operational by 31 December 2025, in order to ensure the continuity of material deliveries and the issuance of sustainability certificates throughout the entire supply chain.
The Decree provides for a simplified approach for by-product producers, regardless of the quantities generated, and for waste producers generating less than 100 tonnes per year, allowing them to join a group certification scheme coordinated by the first collection point. In this context, GEOS acts as the group leader, assuming the role of coordinating entity and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements on behalf of participating clients and producers.
Through group certification, GEOS supports producers in document management, coordination with the certification body and the correct application of sustainability criteria, reducing operational complexity, timelines and administrative burdens. This structured and compliant approach enables companies to address with confidence a regulatory obligation that has become central to renewable energy supply chains.
GEOS thus reaffirms its commitment to providing reliable and up-to-date solutions, supporting its clients throughout the process of adapting to the new National Sustainability Certification System.
